Laurie is a licensed LMFT with an affection for straight-talking people who are both playful and want to discover their individuality in wrestling with life’s challenges. She has worked in clinical settings with schizophrenic adults on a working farm and in school settings that promote creativity and mindfulness meditation. She has also worked with clients who like to dig deep, using an emotionally-focused and narrative approach.

She has her own solo practice called ARTiculate Therapy under the umbrella of Sacramento Therapy Alliance, where she treats clients as young as five up until the end of life. As both a cancer survivor and widow, she has a special interest in those who grieve and hurt as they begin to heal. Laurie empowers her clients, teaching them every imaginable tool from her proverbial toolkit so they blossom into resilient and thriving individuals, able to withstand the chaotic atmosphere of life nowadays. She is both quirky, thoughtful, sensitive and ever a questioner. Laurie listens for what is often hiding in silence and with an openness, she helps her clients explore their lives and reflect upon them, using her intuitive person-centered approach.

She holds BFAs from UCLA in Art History and Italian and from San Jose State in Graphic Design. She holds teaching credentials from San Jose State and Waldorf Steiner College. She holds graduate degrees from California State Sacramento in Art and Education and from California Institute for Integral Studies in Counseling with an Expressive Arts emphasis. Prior to being an expressive arts therapist, she worked as a graphic designer, elementary school teacher, Waldorf grades teacher, puppeteer and museum docent. She has two grown children, one fat cat and two dogs, one of whom is a sweet, affectionate therapy dog who works Saturdays at STA.

Laurie relishes visiting foreign countries particularly Latin America (She is striving to be bilingual in Spanish). She also loves foreign cinema, gardening and cooking in her kitchen.

If I Wasn't a Therapist

I'd follow the likes of designer Iris Apfel with her exquisite
